My coaching philosophy centers on creating a fun and positive environment where players enjoy the game while building confidence and improving their skills. I firmly believe that when students are having fun, they stay motivated, learn more effectively and develop a lasting love for Pickleball.
2) How do you structure a typical lesson? Please describe what a beginner and an intermediate/advanced player can expect.
I use the PPR format for lesson structure which has a clear progression for my students.

Each lesson starts by identifying the objective, followed by a dynamic warm-up, focused instruction on one or two key skills, repetitive drills to build consistency, game-like scenarios to apply the skill, supervised play with coaching feedback, and ends with a recap and takeaways for continued improvement.
For beginners, lessons emphasize fundamentals such as grip, ready position, serving, returns, dinking, and basic court positioning using simple, high-success drills that build confidence and keep learning enjoyable.
For intermediate players, the same structure is used but with greater focus on strategy, shot selection, transition play, third-shot decisions, resets, and tactical point construction through more challenging drills and competitive game situations.
3) Which single PB stroke or skill is non‑negotiable for every player, and how do you teach it?
If I had to choose one non-negotiable skill, it would be consistency.
Regardless of a player's level, the ability to consistently keep the ball in play under control is the foundation of Pickleball. Power, spin, and advanced shots only become effective when a player can reliably execute the basics.
Consistency shows up in every part of the game:
· Consistently serving and returning deep
· Consistently making dinks without unnecessary errors
· Consistently resetting difficult balls into the kitchen
· Consistently hitting with good margins over the net and inside the lines.
How I teach it is to drill in the mentality to "Make one more ball." By reducing unforced errors and forcing opponents to hit one extra shot, they will often win more matches than players with fancy or advanced shots but inconsistent execution.
4) Do you specialize in any areas (e.g., juniors, seniors, competitive training, strategy, doubles tactics, injury prevention)?
I wouldn’t say that I specialise in any one area, but many of my students are seniors who have just started on their Pickleball journey and are looking to improve their skills while also having fun while doing it.
5) How do you support students who take longer to progress? Have you ever advised someone that Pickleball wasn’t the right fit? Explain briefly.
Learning and physical abilities differ greatly for students and for students who are taking longer to progress, the most important part is understanding what is actually holding them back. Sometimes it could be just a simple footwork correction and at times it can be a physical limitation like an old injury that is the issue. The key to progress is to have that constant communication and feedback from your students so that we can help them improve.
I’ve never had to advise anyone that Pickleball was not the right fit because ultimately it is up to each individual’s motivation and expectations. I’ve encountered students who have the potential to become really great players, but their goal was just to be able to play the game at a social level so that they could play with their family. On the other side, I’ve also coached students who had no sports background but have gone on to become really good players. I think that’s one of the greatest draws of Pickleball because there are so many levels to it that everyone can find a place to fit in.
6) Share one rewarding or memorable student moment that made you proud.
It's hard to pick just one moment, but what I find most rewarding is when a student comes back and excitedly tells me they were finally able to execute a shot or sequence we'd been working on in a real match. Seeing the confidence, pride, and pure joy on their face in that moment reminds me why I love coaching, knowing I've played a small part in helping them grow and enjoy the game even more.
7) What practical advice would you give players considering coaching as a side‑hustle or full‑time career?
The one piece of advice I would give would be not to coach everything at once, but instead master teaching the fundamentals first. Players remember coaches who can simplify the game, fix common mistakes quickly, and help them improve with clear, actionable feedback. Build a few high-quality lesson plans for beginners and intermediate players, refine them over time, and develop a consistent coaching system rather than improvising every session.
When students see measurable improvement and enjoy the experience, they will return for more lessons and recommend you to others. In coaching, consistency, professionalism, and the ability to build confidence often matter more than demonstrating advanced shots.
